Rachel Ninan

Mrs. Rachel Ninan Kochamma, beloved wife of the Late Rt. Rev. Ambattu George Ninan, of Valley Cottage, NY, 88 years old, went to be with the Lord, peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, April 10th, 2026. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Reny and Christy, her daughter and son-in-law Reena and John (Ambu) and granddaughters Samantha and Sheena, and son and daughter-in-law Rajive and Asha, and granddaughters Shania and Elsa. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Bishop Ambattu George Ninan.

She cherished her time spent with family and friends from church.

Rachel Kochamma was born on October 27, 1937, at Maramon in Kerala, India. She was the ninth of ten children of Mariamma and Rev. K. J. Chacko, a presbyter of the Church of South India. After earning her B.A. in economics and history from Alwaye College, she did her M.A. in history at Sagar University in Madhya Pradesh. She married A. George Ninan in 1961, and they began their life together in Nagpur. After spending two years in Oklahoma in the late ‘60s, they lived and worked in Bombay for seven years before spending more than a decade in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan, where she worked as a teacher of English and History. After time in Delhi and Ahmednagar, they lived in Mumbai before moving to Canada and eventually to the USA in 2004.
