

Richard J. Roberts passed away on January 27, 2015. He was born in New City on March 9, 1911 to Thomas Roberts and Ella (Blauvelt). He was a lifelong resident of New City. He grew up and worked on the family farm which was located on Roberts Road in North New City. He worked in the New City community as a carpenter and mason before accepting a job with Clarkstown Central School District as a maintenance man where he was fondly known as Mr. Fix-It. He married his wife Edith in 1942 at St. Augustine’s Church and they resided in the home he built with his father in 1941 and still resided there until his passing.
In his younger years, Robert was an avid motorcycle rider. He was known for his garden which he and his family canned vegetables for the long winters. Richard will be remembered as a kind and loving man.
Richard is predeceased by his wife Edith. He is survived by his niece Irene (William) McElroy of Las Vegas, NV; nephew Gerald Roberts of Florida; nephews Robert and William Wood of Arizona as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 6-8pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., New City. Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday 10am St. Augustine’s Church followed by interment at Brick Church Cemetery.
