

Richard Michael Straniere, a resident of New City, NY and Naples, Florida, passed away on September 12, 2012 at age 87. He served in the US Army from 1943-1946 in the 563rd Artillery and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a NYC Fireman at engine 43 in the Bronx from 1954 to 1974. He then was a building developer after retirement from the FDNY. Richard was a fourth degree Knight at Assumption Church in Emerson, NJ. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Anna (Penny) (nee Panepinto); his children Alfonso Zichella of Naples, FL, Carl and Sarah Zichella of Davis, CA, Judy Straniere-Ford of Nanuet, NY, Richard and Maria Straniere of New City, NY, and Janet and John Maas of Bonita Springs, FL; his brothers Anthony and Patricia Straniere of Barnegat, NJ and Warren and Claire Straniere of Clifton Park, NY; his sister Lorraine Milano of Yonkers, NY; 10 grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, and a large loving family. Family will receive friends on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, 10am, St. Augustine’s Church, New City, NY. Private cremation will follow. A memorial service will be held in Naples, FL at a later date.
