Robert, “Bob” or “Poppy” as he was known to his family and many friends, was a successful dentist of 53 years who continued to practice with his son, Robert, Jr. Bob’s professional accomplishments were significant and include, among many, past president of the Rockland County Dental Society, past president of the 9th District Dental Society, Chairman of the Audit and Budget Committee for the 9th District Dental Society, Editor of the 9th District Dental Society Bulletin, Chairman of the EDPAC for the 9th District Dental Society and delegate to the American Dental Association.
Ever the patriot, Bob served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was based out of Fort Bliss, Texas, but spent much of his time in the New Mexico desert test firing and developing guided missile technology to compete with the German “buzz bomb”.
Bob married the love of his life, Loda, in Mamaroneck, NY in 1956. He is survived by Loda, his two sons, Robert and Scott, his daughter-in-law Gretchen, his son-in-law, Rodney Plante, his three beautiful granddaughters, Alexa, Gianna, and Mia, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Norma Tullo, and brother Edmund Gabriel.
Bob lived his life with vigor and enthusiasm. He had many interests, but none surpassed his passion for the Florida Keys. He and Loda enjoyed numerous winters and countless vacations there together with his family over the past 40 years. He was an avid boater and fisherman and often times seemed more comfortable on the water than on land!
Bob loved his country, God, and above all, his family. Many wonderful things can be shared about him but he will forever be remembered for his quick wit, fantastic sense of humor and deep compassion for all.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 8th from 7-9pm and Wednesday, September 9th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 10th, 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, 140 Maple Ave, New City, NY 10956 followed by entombment at Ferncliff Mausoleum, Hartsdale, NY.
