Roger Thomas Bachor of Congers, NY, passed away surrounded by family and friends on June 25, 2024 at the age of 75 after a brief illness. Born in Manhattan, Roger grew up in Washington Township, NJ and lived briefly in California. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In January 1974, Roger met a girl at a friend’s party. They started dating in February and shared life together ever since. Married on May 6, 1978, Kathy & Roger marked their 46th anniversary this year.
After college, Roger decided to pursue a career in carpentry and achieved Master Carpenter status. In 1985 he settled in Congers, NY with his growing family. He started his own contracting business that operated in Rockland County for over 25 years. His impeccable craftsmanship will live on in the many beautiful homes he worked on throughout the tristate area.
Roger had a deep appreciation for the music and culture of the 1960s and attended the original Woodstock festival in 1969. He had a particular love for the music of the Beatles and had an enormous collection of their records and paraphernalia. Few things brought him more joy than sharing his appreciation for the Beatles with his children during long road trips. Fittingly, Roger passed away on International Beatles Day.
Roger had a deep curiosity about astrophysics and the origins of the universe. He read many books by Stephen Hawking, Carl Sagan, and Neil de Grasse Tyson and was always eager to share the mind blowing facts he learned. He appreciated Van Gogh and a good poker game with friends. He loved vacationing in Cape Cod with his family and delighted in shocking them with his bottomless appetite for oysters. He was a lifelong animal lover and adored the many dogs he had throughout his life. He had a great sense of humor and loved regaling his family with “dad jokes”, especially the one about the three-legged pig (which is much too long to share here).
Roger is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen (Kathy); his loving children Robin Courtwright, Brian Bachor, Andrew Bachor, and Darcy Bachor; son-in-law Seth Courtwright; daughter-in-law Laura Bachor; sisters Linda Oldano and Barbara Wykoff; brothers-in-law Michael Oldano and Dennis Wykoff; sister-in-law Eileen Stevenson; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Adopt a Star (https://adoptastar.org/).
