It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rosalinda Mendoza, age 72. On the evening of October 29, 2025, in her Valley Cottage, New York home, her hands were held as she took her last breath peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Rosalinda was born in Cebu City, Philippines to Domingo Garcia and Agueda Jimenez on July 4, 1952. She came to this country when she was 35 years-old and created a full and love-filled life. We recognize her education and career achievements as she graduated Cebu Doctors’ University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and worked as a physical therapist at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, and later per diem in nursing homes in Rockland County, New York. Her light-hearted and childlike personality made her a favorite physical therapist among patients and senior residents.
Caring for others came naturally for her, not only with her patients, but within her family and community. She was an active member of the Concerned Filipinos for Unity (CFU), as well as a daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and wife.
While Alzheimer’s took her from this world far too soon, her legacy endures. She is survived by her husband of 43 years and love of her life, Nelson Mendoza, her two children, Roselle Mendoza and Neil Mendoza, and her siblings Domingo Jr., Lilia, and Flora. She is predeceased by her brother, Rodolfo.
In loving memory of Rosalinda, we reflect on joys she found in life; spending time with friends and family, reading, watching animated movies, and everything pink. Sharing meals with Rosalinda, especially her biko and lychee jello recipes, will be sorely missed.
In remembrance, there will be a viewing on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Sunday November 9, 2025 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S Main Street, New City, NY 10956. A memorial mass is being held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 82 Lake Road, Congers, NY 10920
