Words cannot express the void and emptiness I have towards the passing of my father.  Sheldon Malovany was a wonderful Husband, Incredible Father, Awesome Papa and a great friend to all. 
 Sheldon Malovany was pure Bronx.  Born in the Bronx growing up on Evergreen Avenue.  He attended James Monroe High School and eventually had a long career as an educator in the NY city school system in none other than the Bronx – PS 158X.  
He married the love of his life; Loretta and they went on to a beautiful 52-year marriage.  He taught advanced Social Studies to the gifted and talented at his school.  All along he had introduced and encouraged many values, qualities and ethics to his students.  Growing up, my brother and I were fortunate to have those very same morals and principles instilled and installed in our total beings.   Dad had an encompassing aura and was the consummate role model in which he positively shaped and molded many.  
Upon moving out of the Bronx (Co-Op City), my parents settled in Rockland County.  My fathers’ love of sports (especially baseball) quickly was passed down to Danny and I.  He was our first baseball coach at Ramapo Little League and an excellent coach.  He had an overwhelming impact on countless that he taught and coached throughout the years.  It was overly heartwarming to hear of stories shared some 40 years later, regarding the love and appreciation towards my father on his impact of those he coached.  That alone resonates and puts everything into perspective of the outstanding individual he was.  As Danny and I moved up the rankings, Dad eventually gave up coaching to watch and enjoy our progress.  No matter where we played without fail, Dad would always be there on the sidelines to root us on.  This held true all the way through college, as he was a regular at Danny’s Marist games.  


He thoroughly enjoyed watching movies especially The Godfather I and II, Field of Dreams and Dances with Wolves.  He was a true lover of music preferring to listen to LP records since it had the purest sound.  Listening to anything Jazz in particular Louis Armstrong.  He had an underlining interest in anything well versed.  Sunday mornings, however, was always Breakfast with the Beatles.  A Sunday 8 AM wakeup call was always eminent with John, Paul, George and Ringo blasting throughout the house.  Dad also had a true passion for any book about History or sports.  He also consumed advanced crossword puzzles which were always completed in ink.  To put it in short, my father was a pure Wordsmith.  
Him being a wordsmith, made perfect sense considering he was a pure communicator which is exactly how he spread his love.   Often Though Conversations, Listening, and offering advice.  Anyone who had the pleasure of speaking with my dad, usually resulted in a lengthy, amazing and humorous conversation.  I am fortunate to have learned from him his gift of communicating along with his incredible sense of humor.   
His love of sports was also a fixture in our household.  An avid Baseball fan but mainly the NY Yankees.  Pops was Also a fan of all NY sports; Giants, Rangers, Knicks but any game that was on TV was subject to being watched.  He later became an avid fan of the University of Connecticut Women’s basketball team, thoroughly following and watching every game.      
His love was Unconditional.  He loved his entire family:  from his parents to his sister, brother in laws, his uncles, his many cousins, Niece and Nephew.  But his true love was his wife of 52 years, Loretta.  Their love was beautiful and absolute.  Furthermore, he loved his two sons Danny and Myself unconditionally along with our wives Janine and Jill respectively


And when he became Papa and was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, he was over the moon.  His love for Bridget and Raquel was so pure and just beautiful to watch him dote over them.  He also was a proud Papa of his 3 grand-dogs.  He was also extremely fond of all our friends.  Participating in several fantasy baseball leagues; Dad was a fixture and always the voice of reason.  It’s not often that your immediate friends have a relationship with your parent(s) but that was exactly the case.  Dad also had a long and lasting friendship with his childhood friends from Evergreen Avenue.   70 plus years of remaining best friends is a true testament.  He loved you all so much.  Once again – Unconditional Love! 
Cancer in general is negative.  It’s encompasses the body and Mind. Throughout his long battle with cancer, he vowed to stay positive at every turn.  We had a saying that had worked for an extremely long time. “Positivity and Perseverance”.  The mind often needs positive reassurance to combat with all the Negativity.  Should anyone be going through a difficult period please steal this phrase with pride and use it.  Sometimes it’s the little things that go a long way.  “Positivity and Perseverance!!”  
It’s difficult when you communicate with someone you love daily and then in a blink of an eye, it’s gone forever.  I long for the day when I can speak with him again.  A giant piece of both my heart and soul is forever gone.  I will However, cherish and keep near and dear All of the many fond memories and recollections of my amazing father.  I will sustain his legacy through myself and my family.  I thank him for Everything he did for our Entire Family.   I am both Lucky and Blessed to have him as my father.  Furthermore, I am both extremely Humbled and Honored to be his son.

Rest in Peace Pops.  I’ll Catch you on Sunday mornings’ listening to the Beatles!!

Dear Loretta, Dan, Matt, Jill, Janine, Bridget and Raquel:  I  knew my friend, Shelly close to seventy years ago when Gussie crossed him over to my side of Evergreen Avenue.  The rest, was a long and wonderful friendship that ended all too soon.  We were there for each other for marriages, births and unfortunately the deaths of our parents and siblings.  Knowing we could talk about our grief made us stronger and even better friends,  I also remember the fantasy league baseball we were involved in,  not to mention the conversations about all the New York teams.   To be perfectly honest, it will be strange and sad not to be able to pick up the phone and call Shelly.  I loved him like a brother and always will.  Rest In Peace, my friend,
