Sr. Mary Rose Mullervy

Born in New York City on July 28, 1930, Mary Rose was the daughter of James and Katherine Creegan Mullervy. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1948, and received the name Sister Patrick James. She professed her first vows in 1950 and her final vows in 1955.

Sister Mary Rose received her BA in Education from Fordham University in 1956, an MS in Education, SUNY, New Paltz, 1973; and Certification in Religious Education from St. Joseph’s Seminary, Yonkers, NY, 1978.

Sister Mary Rose commenced her teaching ministry at St. Martin of Tours, Bronx, NY (1950-1955), followed by St. Theresa School, Bronx, NY (1955-1956); Sacred Heart School, Suffern, NY (1956-1959); Holy Family School, Hicksville, NY (1959-1966); and principal of Most Precious Blood School, Walden, NY (1966-1978). From 1978 until 2015, Sister Mary Rose served as Director of Religious Education at St. Anastasia Parish, Harriman, NY. Sister Mary Rose was honored by the Catechetical Office of the Archdiocese of New York for her faithful service in sharing the faith with children and parents as Director of Religious Education for 37 years.

Sister Mary Rose is predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Katherine Mullervy, brother-in-law Edward Flood, and nephew James Flood. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Flood, five nieces and nephews, twelve great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great nieces and nephews, her Godchildren and extended family, Dominican Sisters and Associates, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill, NY on Monday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation is Monday, April 7, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30am at Dominican Convent, 175 Route 340, Sparkill, NY. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Arrangements are by Higgins Funeral Home.
