After her heroic battle with Alzheimer's, Violet Castaldo was called to rest at the age of 80 on August 25, 2014. As one of 13 children and the youngest girl, she was always surrounded by her large loving family. She was a single mom raising 4 young children all born one year apart. She worked for the New York Telephone Company for several years before retiring at the age of 55. However, there was no keeping Violet down. After working her entire life, she decided to return to the work force as a part-time switch board operator at Nyack Hospital. Unfortunately, her career was cut short when she was saddled with this horrible disease. Violet enjoyed traveling which took her to places throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. She also enjoyed her monthly trips to Atlantic City as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Debra & her husband John Catoliato, Donald and his wife Dawn, Dominick and his wife Iris and Cheryl and her husband John Christiano, as well as her ten grandchildren, John and his spouse Dan, Justin, Dana, Thomas and his spouse Nadia, Lisa, Krista, Kristina, Donald, Victoria and Nicole. Any donations are to made to The Adult Day Care at the Bobbi Lewis Center, Meals on Wheels, 121 West Nyack Road in Nanuet, NY 10954.
Friends may call Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 3-7pm at the Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St., New City, NY. A Funeral service will be offered at 7:00pm in the Funeral Home.
