Clarice Klyve Linnell

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Friend and Missionary in Tanzania

Clarice Marie (Klyve) Linnell, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Shoreview, MN on March 10, 2015. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on September 14, 1930, she was the daughter of Jacob and Marie Klyve who immigrated to the U.S. in 1923 from Norway. Graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and attended Northern State Teachers College.

Clarice Klyve and Leonard S. Linnell were married on June 2, 1951, and following Leonard’s graduation from the University of Minnesota Medical School served from 1954-1958 as medical missionaries in rural Africa in Kiomboi, and Ihanja, Tanzania.

Received her nursing LPN degree in 1982 while living in Spicer, MN. Served as early childhood teacher, United Cerebral Palsy program director, hospice nurse, Stephen Minister, and teacher of English as a second language to new immigrants.

She is survived by her loving husband Dr. Leonard Linnell: children Kristine Allen (Ben), Karen Anderson (Marty), Vernon Linnell (Kim), Norman Linnell (Patricia), Stanley Linnell (Jean), Amy Linnell; foster sons Sao Pham, Anthony Pham, Dr. Tong Pham (Tasha), Dr. Quan Pham (Christy) and their families; sister Gertrude Breitag (Glenn); sisters-in-law Jean Wayne (Rev. Robert Wayne) and Susan Gruber; 12 grandchildren and 3 (soon to be 4) great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; her brother Rev. Stan Klyve (Cordell), her brother-in-law John Linnell (Naomi), and infant granddaughter Marta Allen.

A HomeGoing Celebration will be held at House of Hope Lutheran Church, 4800 Boone Ave N, New Hope, MN at 12:00 Saturday, March 21st with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Books for Africa: Memorial Container to Kiomboi, Tanzania, or House of Hope Lutheran Church children’s ministry.
