Elise Vilmenay Elie was born on February 22, 1922 in Anse a veau, Haiti to Felecie Vilmenay and Napoleon Mystal. In 1956 she migrated to America where she settled in New York and met her husband, Gerard Elie.
Elise is survived by her loving husband & partner of over 50 years, Gerard Elie. Affectionately called Luz by her family and friends, had 3 children: Frantz V. Pierre, whom she has joined in eternal life; her son Jude Gerard Elie, daughter-in-law Judith & daughter, Lucie Manuel and son-in-law Will. Grandmother of 11 – Alexandra Pierre, Jeff Pierre (deceased), Arlyn Pierre, Emmanuel Elie, Anne Marie Elie, Kathleen Elie, Noel Manuel, Charlise Manuel, Emil Manuel, Brielle Manuel and Brienne Manuel – and great grandmother of 7. Elise has several siblings including Philomene Mystal and Creda Mystal, whom she has joined in heaven and Leonie Mystal and Yvette Gaston, whom she leaves behind. She shared an especially strong bond with her niece Evelyne Mystal Laine and granddaughter Kathleen.
Elise was a quiet, strong, fiery and resilient woman. She was funny and sarcastic and loved to talk and tell stories with the people around her. Although constricted by a walker or wheelchair for the past 28 years Elise let nothing stop her. She continued to do what made her happy including cook, clean, shop and get her hair done. Everyone who knew her knew she was fancy and always wanted the best for her and her loved ones. Elise was a fighter and she fought until the very end. She passed alongside her husband and daughter Lucie on June 17, 2013. She will be greatly missed but will live forever in our hearts and memories.
