

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Dr. Adonis J. Domingue, age 93, at 10:00 am Monday, January 15, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will be held at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Scott at 2:00 pm on Monday.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time.
Dr. Domingue was born on March 31, 1924 in Scott, LA. He was the eldest of seven children born to Alexis Domingue and Theodora Thabb.
Dr. Domingue was a veteran of World War II, US Army Medical Corp and participated in three European battles: Northern France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Rhineland (Germany) for which he was awarded three battle stars. He was in the service from 1943 to 1946 and held the grade of Tec5.
After discharge from the service he pursued his medical education. He received a B.S. degree from SLI in 1948, a Doctor of Medicine degree from LSU in 1952, did his Internship at Gorgas Hospital in the Canal Zone in Panama, and attended LSU Law School for one year. He began General Practice in New Iberia, LA in 1953 and retired on January 1, 2000 after forty-seven years of medical practice. He held Diplomate status in Preventive and Alternative Medicine. He served as President of the Iberia Parish Society. He was awarded Certificates of Accomplishment by the Gemological Institute of America for diamond grading and evaluation, as well as for grading, evaluation and identification of colored stones. He also received from the American Numismatic Association certification in coin grading.
Dr. Domingue authored three books: Eating Smart, Feeling Good; In the Shadow of World War II; and On My Way Home.
Dr. Domingue enjoyed attending daily Mass, meeting people who were patients and the doctors who were still in practice or retired. He thoroughly enjoyed the active social environment at Azalea Estates, his home for the last three years.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Domingue and wife Yuri of Japan; Steven Domingue and wife Norma Hawes of Austin, TX and John Domingue and wife Kyoko of Japan; five grandchildren, Bree Hawes-Domingue; Kathleen Hawes-Domingue; Race Picou; Sakura Domingue and Marina Domingue; one brother, Harry Lee Domingue and wife Genevieve of Lafayette and one sister, Loretta Barthe of Bridge City.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Monique Savoie Domingue; his only daughter, Mona Picou; his parents and four brothers, Anderson, Nelton, Alexis, Jr. and Daniel Domingue.
Pallbearers will be Steven Domingue, John Domingue, Race Picou, Matthew Miller, Gerald Comeaux, Gerald Dugas and Cameron Guidry. Michael Domingue, K.J. Brasseaux, Randy Guidry and Jimmie Dugas will serve as honorary pallbearers.
