Born on March 12, 1953, in New Iberia to the late Fred L. Landry and the late Larlen Romero Landry, Anthony was raised in a home steeped in Cajun heritage. His deep roots in the community shaped him into a man of great character and service.
Anthony began working at the age of 5 picking cotton and okra in his grandparents’ fields. During his teenage years, he worked at G&R Uniforms while attending high school. His successful career in the auto body repair and painting business began in the early 1970s. It wasn’t long before he set out on his own, opening A & A Paint and Body Shop, which he operated for the next 50 years, providing the people of New Iberia with exceptional repairs and painting.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Anthony devoted much of his time to his community. He served as Chief of the Rynella Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, worked for the Iberia Parish School Board as a bus driver for 30 years, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7050 in Rynella.
A man of deep faith, Anthony began each day with prayer, reciting the Rosary, and attending Mass with his family. His faith was at the core of his life, and his family will always remember him for his unwavering devotion. Anthony was also known for his sense of humor and playful nature. He was a master at lightening the mood with jokes and teasing, often bringing laughter to all who knew him.
As a true Louisiana outdoorsman, Anthony found great joy in hunting and fishing. He cherished time spent at his hunting camp in Mississippi and always found time to tend to his own yard, as well as his neighbors’. His generosity and kindness knew no bounds, and his love for his family and community was evident in everything he did. Anthony was also an avid sports fan, particularly passionate about his New Orleans Saints.
In the eyes of his family and friends, Anthony was everything one could want in a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. While we mourn his absence, we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Lord, and, as our faith teaches us, we will one day be reunited with him. Rest well, Anthony, for you have earned your reward in heaven.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Christine Mosele Landry; his children, David Anthony Landry, Kristine “Kati” Landry Kelly (Chris), and Kari Landry Judice (Brooks); his grandchildren, Trever David Landry, Kullen Judice, Kaleb Kelly, and Zoie Kelly; his sister, Virginia Pommier (Ed); and his sister-in-law, Jackie Landry.
Anthony was preceded in death by his grandson, Dexter Anthony Landry; his brothers, Ronald Landry and Eric Landry; and his sister-in-law, Dot Landry.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Anthony's life, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Garrett Savoie will be the celebrant. Anthony will be laid to rest privately at a later date at Broussard Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 am dismissal.
