Barbara dedicated her life to children and education, spending her career as a beloved first-grade teacher. She was a proud Air Force wife and a partner in adventure who loved traveling with her husband and family. She especially loved the beach and finding shells. Known for her vibrant spirit, Barbara was always the life of the party. Whether sailing with Paul on their boat, the Bon Temps, as members of the Shreveport Yacht Club, or dressing up for her favorite holidays—especially the Fourth of July and Christmas—she brought joy and laughter wherever she went.
A member of the Red Hat Society, an avid reader, and a devoted tutor to children with special needs, Barbara touched countless lives with her kindness, energy, and heart for service.
She is survived by her son, Jon Qualey (Tracy); her daughter, Mary Qualey (Edward); her brother, James Wyche, Jr.; her sister, Mary Wyche Estes; her grandchildren, Colin Qualey, Joey Touchet (Sarah), Meagan Lanie (Josh), Lyndsey Morvant (Evan), and Michelle Mitchell Mounce (James); Savannah Qualey, and Zachary Williams. Along with great grandchildren Noah, Peyton, Kaylin, Aiden, and Aubrey.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Qualey; her father, James Wyche, Sr.; and her mother, Arlene Snyder Wyche.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Evangeline Funeral Home and will continue Saturday, July 19, from 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Edward Morvant, Jon Qualey, Josh Lanie, Evan Morvant, Joey Touchet, Colin Qualey. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Wyche, Stuart Taylor, Darrin Stroud, Edward Morvant, Sr., Dr. James Falterman, Lee Estes, and Todd Jackson.
Barbara will be remembered for her love of family, her joyful spirit, and her unwavering passion for life.
