

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bernice Hebert Bourque, age 82, at 10:00 am Monday April 16, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Derise will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Sunday from 9:00 am until 10:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Monday from 8:00 am until services.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Bourque passed away at 11:00 pm on Thursday April 12, 2012 at Maison Teche Nursing Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Bernice worked with Paul’s Flower Shop for over 15 years. She was also co-owner of the T-Coteau Canal Station, along with her husband. But many will remember Mrs. Bernice for her volunteer work at Magnolia Elementary that brought her such great joy. “Granny B” as she was lovingly called by the students, enjoyed helping the children with reading and their assignments, as well as helping the teachers.
As a homemaker, Bernice enjoyed cooking and baking, and was known to make the best pralines and fig cakes around. She treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and family and leaves behind many wonderful memories that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Rinaud J. “NuNu” Bourque of New Iberia; her children, Linda B. Moore of Lafayette, Ronald J. Bourque and wife Toni, Guy P. Bourque and wife Peggy, Dianne B. Henneman and husband Doug, and Renee’ B. Voorhies and husband Walter all of New Iberia; 15 grandchildren, Matt, Joey, Dawn, Summer, Misty, Kegan, Guy II, Dax, Clay, Maegan, Dillon, Elizabeth, Amanda, Alex, and Tonya; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Allen J. Hebert of New Iberia; sisters, Gloria Romero of Youngsville, Pat Johnston and husband Gary of Lafayette, and Gail Louviere and husband Gene of New Iberia; and her dear friends, Suzette Armentor, Elina East and Audrey Bourque.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam J and Olive Romero Hebert; sisters, Bea Moreland and Nell Hebert; and great grandson, Gabriel Bourque.
Pallbearers will be her Ronald, Guy, Guy II, Dillon, Alex, and Joey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dax, Clay, Matt, Maegan, Elizabeth, Amanda, Dawn, Summer, Kegan, Misty and Tonya..
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Bernice’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
