Beverly Callahan Decuir, a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, gracefully departed from this earthly life on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and dearest friends. She was 81 years old.
Born on October 28, 1942, in New Iberia to the late Lawrence J. Callahan, Sr. and the late Connie Lawrence Callahan Mouille, Beverly was the beloved daughter among three children. Throughout her life, Beverly embraced each moment with enthusiasm and dedication. She found joy in her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, embodying love and kindness in all she did.
Beverly dedicated herself to her work, retiring from the Iberia Parish School Board as a cafeteria worker, where she delighted countless children with her delicious meals. Additionally, she generously volunteered her time and care to Dodson Elementary's after school program and the daycare program at Highland Baptist Christian School, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Outside of work, Beverly found solace and contentment in tending to her beloved garden and spending quality time with cherished friends, particularly enjoying their frequent casino excursions. However, her greatest source of happiness was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild, with whom she shared countless cherished moments.
We are truly saddened by her passing, but rejoice in knowing that she is not gone from us, only gone on before us. We will hold her memory dear to our hearts and in our thoughts every day, and know that we will one day be reunited with her. Until that precious day, may she rest in eternal peace. We love you.
Left to cherish Beverly's memory are her devoted children, Tina M. Landry, Tiffany D. Meyers (Travis), and Stephanie D. Mire (Teddy); her beloved grandchildren, Lindsay Morton, Alexis "Lexi" Morton, Madison Meyers, and Micah Meyers; her adored great-grandson, Landon Rodrigue; and her brother, Clarence A. Callahan (Norma).
Beverly is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Stacie Hankinson and Amy Tracewell, Kevin Callahan (her Godchild) and Clint Callahan; a Godchild, Meleah Olsberg Hallmark; her best and most dearest friends, Elaine Cuccio, Margaret Gonsoulin, Connie Sarkies, Bonnie Wallace and Sharon Solar; and her former husband and father to her daughters, Lynn J. Decuir.
Along with her parents, Beverly is reunited with her brother, Lawrence J. "LJ" Callahan, Jr.; her nephew, John Callahan; and her dear friends, Virginia Olsberg, Linda Boutte and Gail Soileau, who now welcome her with open arms into the eternal embrace.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to our mother’s caregiver, Jada Louis, for her love and compassion shown to Beverly throughout her care.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial honoring Beverly's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Fr. Keith Landry officiating. Following the Mass, Beverly will be laid to rest at Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at Sacred Heart of Jesus from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass.
In this time of remembrance, family and friends are encouraged to share their condolences and memories on Beverly's memorial page at www.evangelinenewiberia.com, ensuring her legacy of love and compassion endures for generations to come.
