NEW IBERIA – Funeral services celebrating the life of Britton Reid Herring will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Rev. Ed Downs, Pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate. Britt will be laid to rest with his father at Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum in Jeanerette.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until time of services.
Britt was born July 27, 1969 in Lafayette to the late James “Rudy” Herring and Katherine Ann Butler. On Friday, April 15, 2016 this loving husband, son, brother, step-father and friend went on to be with his heavenly father.
Britt was raised in New Iberia and was a 1987 graduate of New Iberia Senior High. He followed his passion of architecture and received his BA from USL (now ULL) and later attended Tulane University to pursue his Masters in Historical Preservation. Through his professional career, he was able to travel to many destinations, both in the United States and abroad. His training brought him to Japan, China, Hong Kong and many other great architectural places. Britt often visited cities just to admire the different styles of buildings. Some of his most memorable visits include going to Holland and to the Frank Lloyd Wright Tour in both Chicago and Fr. Worth. One of Britt’s favorite pastimes was building the many collections of comic books, baseball cards, and guns that he shared with his father.
Many will remember Britt as a gentle giant…..a man who was intelligent, kind, compassionate, and most of all humble and loving. An excerpt from one of his favorite songs “Blue Skies” by Frank Sinatra reads, “Never saw the sun shining so bright, Never saw things looking so right, Noticing the days hurryin' by, When you're in love, oh how they fly. Blue days, all of them gone, Nothin' but blue skies from now on. Britt, you will be missed dearly, but your memory and legacy will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved you.
Britt is survived by his wife Sophie Zhao; his step-son, Jeremy Bai; his mother, Katherine Ann Butler; his step-mother, Cindy Herring; his sister, D’Ann Herring Turnage and her husband Peter Lynn Turnage; his step-sister, Kelli Miguez; his nieces and nephew, Chloe Ann Duhon, Rhodes James Perry and Isabella Annison; and many extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and best friend, James Rudolph Herring; his grandparents, Raybon Herring and Ruby Lee Busby Herring and Willie Ray Butler and Agnes Maureen Mitchell Butler.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Josh Herring, Robert Richard, Mike Sanders, Derk Duhon, Adam Sonnier, Carson Sonnier, Lee Harang and Jay Harang. Peter Turnage and Lisa Herring Nice will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made in Britt’s name to American Heart Association, 2644 S Sherwood Forest Blvd #108, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, or to your local chapter.
