A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Belanger at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 7, 2024, officiated by the Very Rev. William C. Blanda, V.F. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the Mass. Following the Mass, Cindy will be laid to rest at Holy Family Cemetery.
Cindy was born and raised in New Iberia and attended kindergarten through 12th grade at her beloved Mt. Carmel Academy (MCA) where she was a cheerleader for her Mighty Cubs. Her senior class of 1971 voted her “Miss Friendship”.
While still in high school, Cub Scout Den 5 needed a Den Mother, and Cindy accepted the challenge. Her Den included her own brother and our present mayor, Freddie DeCourt.
Following MCA, she attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and graduated from their Nursing School where she achieved her life-long goal of becoming a Registered Nurse, and a good one she was. For over 30 years, Cindy was a devoted nurse at Iberia Parish Hospital (Iberia Medical Center).
Cindy is survived by her two children, Jason John Valls and Lacy Marie Valls Morrow (Darrell) and four grandchildren, Manny James Valls, Eli John Valls, Thomas Craig Morrow, and Mia Rebecca Morrow. Survivors also include her sister, Phyllis Marie Belanger Mata (Jose’) and her brother, Milton “Bo” Joseph Belanger, III (Charlie Robertson), her aunt, Patricia “Noonie” Belanger Ford, and cousin, Robin Brooke Ford. She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton “Maney” Joseph Belanger, Jr. and Laura Ann Borel Belanger.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Catholic High School endowment fund, 1301 de La Salle Dr., New Iberia, LA 70560. The CHS phone number is 337-364-5116.
