

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Daisy B. Darcey Soirez, age 90, at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Evangeline Funeral Home with Fr. Chauvin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday with a Rosary recited just prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born December 23, 1922, Daisy Broussard Darcey Soirez was the youngest daughter of Anthony and Elda Eskind Broussard. She was married to Francis Harry Darcey on August 19, 1939. Today she is survived by the two children of that marriage, Priscilla Ann Darcey Bruggeman and Douglas John Darcey and his wife, Clora Broussard Darcey.
Daisy and Harry enjoyed many wonderful year together until his passing on June 16, 1970. She was very fortunate to meet and marry Raymond J. Soirez on June 19, 1987. She and Raymond enjoyed many happy years together until his passing on July 20, 2003.
She worked, for most of her life, outside of her home. She was employed very early on by local sugarcane processing plant followed by many years in banking. She was also employed with Iberia Council on Aging and worked well into her 70’s.
Daisy travelled extensively during her lifetime throughout the United States and Mexico. She loved to vacation and always said her favorites were the two trips she made to the islands of Hawaii. She loved spending her time with family and friends. Daisy had a zest for life and happiness that was unequalled!
She was an avid Mardi Gras fan. She had the opportunity to participate in many Mardi Gras events and activities during her lifetime, including her membership for the very first year of Royal Order of Eden Women’s Mardi Gras Krewe. Daisy was very proud of the fact that on more than one occasion she reigned as a Mardi Gras Queen! One of her fondest wishes came true when just a few short years ago she was able to witness her first ever nighttime Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.
In addition to her two children, Daisy is survived by her only grandchild Corleen Aucoin Rouly and spouse, Kern and her great-granddaughter, Lauren Alexis Rouly White, and her husband, Langston, and Francis Wilton Dorsey and his wife, Pamela. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family including her daughter-in-law’s children and grandchildren, Misty, April, Kellan, Kye, Parker, Kingston and Beau.
She was preceeded in death by her parents and her husbands as well as, her three sisters Gersey Dubois (Louis), Elma Penn (John) and Edna Olivier (Wilfred), along with her son-in-laws Jerry Aucoin and James Bruggeman.
Pallbearers will be Kern Rouly, Langston White, Monte Howard, Lawrence Kiper, and her nephews Harold Dubois and Johnny Dubois. Honorary pallbearer will be Francis Dorsey.
