It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Rita Solar Landry, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, just seven weeks after the love of her life and husband of 67 years, Kermit George Landry. Their bond was unbreakable, and now they are together once more.
Born on September 3, 1939, in New Iberia, LA, Donna Rita dedicated her life to caring for others, both in her career and in her community. She was a passionate special education teacher at Avery Island School, where she nurtured and guided countless students. Her compassion extended beyond the classroom, as she also volunteered selflessly with Hospice, providing comfort to those in need.
A devout Catholic, Donna Rita was a faithful member of St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Together with her husband, she was always ready to lend a helping hand in any way possible, embodying the true spirit of faith and service.
Their love for each other was evident in all they did. Whether working side by side at church or sharing joyful moments as members of the Cajun French Music Association, Donna Rita and her husband found happiness in dancing and enjoying the music that celebrated their heritage. Their love was a beautiful testament to a life well-lived and shared.
Donna Rita's kindness, unwavering faith, and love for her family and community will be deeply missed but forever cherished. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, devotion, and joy.
May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved husband in God’s eternal embrace.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melanie L. Broussard and husband Ted; son in law, Randal Quebedeaux; her grandchildren, Aaron Joseph Broussard and Brandy; Brittany Broussard Neuville and Layla Touchet; great grandchildren, Lillian Broussard, London Broussard, Lyla Broussard, Andrew Camacho, Jonah Camacho and Isaac Neuville; two brothers, Donald Solar and wife Sharon and Robert Solar and wife Michelle; three sisters, Mary Catherine Suire; Elizabeth Solar Bodin and Pamela Ann Solar and her sister in law, Lois Saunier.
Along with her husband she is preceded in death by her father, Warren Solar; mother and stepfather, Noelie and Audy Solar; daughter, Lisa Landry Quebedeaux and two sisters, Myrna Fox and JoAnn Pinton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 1:30 pm at St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella, Fr. James Nguyen will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Marcellus Mausoleum.
Visiting hours will be observed on Friday at Evangeline Funeral Home from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am.
Member of the family will serve as pallbearers.
