Born and raised on Jefferson Island to parents who were trappers and sharecroppers, Edita loved to tell the story of her early life. As a young girl, she would pick cotton in the mornings before heading off to school. Though she left formal schooling in the seventh grade , she never stopped learning—teaching herself through a lifelong curiosity and determination.
A devout Catholic and a gifted cook, Edita lived her faith and love through the care she gave to others. To family and friends, she was simply “Jo” or “Aunt Jo,” a name that carried warmth and familiarity. She was a very hard worker and worked in the school cafeteria her entire career.
She had a special gift with plants and was known to bring even the most wilted flowers back to life. Crochet was one of her greatest joys, and many family members still cherish the beautiful pieces she lovingly made over the years. Above all, Edita adored her family. Her love, strength, and gentle presence were the foundation of generations.
Edita “Jo” Delahoussaye LeBlanc leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
