NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Gladys Babineaux Comeaux, 89, at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Keith DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels, will be the celebrant and conduct the Mass. Readers for the Mass will be Allie Dugas and Cali Comeaux. Gift bearers are Olivia Dugas and Abi Comeaux. Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visiting will resume on Monday from 8:00 am until 12:30 pm.
Gladys Babineaux Comeaux was born September 10, 1925 in Coteau to the late Marcial Babineaux and Amelia Romero Babineaux and was one of eight children. She passed away peacefully Friday, September 12, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Gladys, affectionately known as “Grandmother” was retired with over 21 years as a cafeteria worker at Catholic High School in New Iberia. She had a love for cooking and sewing (especially needle work and cross stitch). But it was the love for her family that was her greatest joy. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Percy James “Jimmy” Comeaux and wife Hazel, John “Glen” Comeaux and wife Germaine, Nanette Comeaux Reed and husband James all of New Iberia, and Rickie Paul Comeaux and wife Becky of Arnaudville; grandchildren, Vince Comeaux (Candace), April Dugas (Raymond), Matt Comeaux (Kristi), Jonathan Comeaux (Lisa), Patrick Dayton, Jr. (Sharyn), Steven Dayton (Dara), Cali Comeaux, Beau Arceneaux and Christy Brasseaux (Mark); great grandchildren, Nicholas Comeaux, Allie Dugas, Olivia Dugas, Abi Comeaux, Riley Comeaux, Avery Comeaux, Amelia Comeaux, Benjamin Percy Comeaux, Sawyer Dayton, Owen Dayton, Tristan Dayton, Cameron Brasseaux, and Tristan Comeaux; and her sisters, Lillian Normand and Emilda Robichaux and husband Ulysse.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Comeaux; her grandson, David Dayton; and her brothers and sisters, Robert, Mitchel and Clynis Babineaux, Theresa Delahoussaye and Rita Norris.
Serving as pallbearers are Vince, Matt, Jonathan, and Nicholas Comeaux, Steven and Patrick Dayton, Jr., Raymond Dugas, and Cameron Brasseaux.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Comeaux’s name to the David Dayton Memorial Scholarship Fund, 513 Emmeline St., New Iberia, LA 70563 or to the Catholic High Endowment Fund, 1301 De La Salle Dr, New Iberia, LA 70560, or Masses.
