COTEAU- It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Trahan Viator, who left us peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 81. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she was the heart of her family and a cherished member of her community.
Gloria was a woman who always gave more than she received. Though she never pursued sewing as a career, she became the go-to seamstress for anyone in need. Whether it was a wedding gown or a bridesmaid dress for an entire party, Gloria's skillful hands and loving heart made sure everything was done just right. As a homemaker and housewife, Gloria filled her time in countless ways. She spent many joyful years babysitting children in her home, earning the affectionate title of “Granny Gloria” from each little one she cared for. Gloria and her husband of 63 years, Ovey, had a love story that was as adventurous as it was enduring. Together, they explored the world, traveling and camping in beautiful places, including several trips to Canada and even a memorable visit to Spain, Italy, and France. A devout Catholic, Gloria spent 28 years serving on the Ladies Altar Society at Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she shared that faith with others in all that she did. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Gloria is survived by her devoted husband, Ovey Viator; her children, Pam Viator Wright (Kip), Dale Viator (Monique), Kevin Viator (Jessica), Katrina Viator Guidry (Orson), Donel Trahan, and Nicole Viator; her siblings, Robert Trahan (Margaret), Gerald Trahan (Betty), and Rose T. Couvillier; as well as 13 grandchildren: Amanda Wright, Brett Viator, Claire Moran, Maria Viator, Matthew Viator, Ian Viator, Nathan Viator, Hannah Viator, Jonathon Viator, Joshua Huval, Zoey Trahan, Taylor Martin, and Nicholas Martin; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Martin, Fernando Santos, and baby Amelia who is on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pierre Trahan and Louisiana Gonzales Trahan; her siblings, Nolan Trahan, Donald Trahan, Barbara Hulse, Jimmy Trahan, Huey Trahan, and Dot Boudreaux.
