Harriet was born November 27, 1936 in New Iberia to the late Melvin Broussard, Sr. and the late Solange Broussard and was one of five children born to that union. After her graduation, she began her studies at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she obtained her degree in teaching. From that degree, she began a career in early childhood education with Head Start, having taught for over 54 years until her retirement in 2020. During those years, Harriet nurtured and loved each student entrusted to her. Her dedication and desire to teach was instrumental in so many young children’s lives as they moved on in their education. Linda and Renee shared that over the years, Harriet was able to see children she taught become productive and successful young adults with some even teaching alongside of her.
Outside of her teaching career, Harriet devoted herself to prayer, faith and family. She loved everyone and lived for others happiness. We will truly miss her beautiful smile and kind heart, but know that we will one day be reunited with her. Rest well momma, for you have earned your heavenly reward.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters and true best friends, Renee Vincent and Linda Vincent; her sisters whom she loved, Kathleen Broussard and Virginia “Virgie” B. Marshall; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy J. Vincent; her son, Paul James Vincent; and her sister and brother, Geraldine Rivet and Melvin Broussard, Jr.
In keeping with Harriet’s wishes, private memorial services will be held and she will be laid to rest alongside her husband and son at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Because of Harriet’s love of children, memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
