James was born April 2, 1959 in New Iberia to the late Carl Armentor, Sr. and the late Peggie Jones Armentor and was one of six children born to that union. From the young age of 10 and until he was 16, James was raised by his aunt and uncle, Elaine and Hinton “Bee” Wood in Bellaire Texas. As a teenager he was on his school swim team and reached the level of Eagle Scout in Troop 222. He eventually moved back to New Iberia where he graduated from New Iberia Senior High. By profession, James was a muddlogger in the oilfield, but he also attended Vocation Technical School studying Electronics and graduated in his studies. He worked in the electrical service industry following his career in the oilfield, working until he became disabled.
Some of his favorite pastimes were square dancing, camping, fishing and going on picnics. His family spoke of James great memories from their trips to Astroworld in Houston. James was also an avid card player and could hold his own in Spades and Texas Holdem. When he wanted to sit back and relax, he would tune in to the old Casey Casem American Top 40 radio broadcasts and slip away to his earlier years. His niece, Whitney, reminisced about her uncle’s razor sharp humor and wit. They bonded over dumb movies and classic rock. In her own words, “James was a character to say the least, and a more endearing mess has never walked the face of the earth.”
Our brother has gone on to his peace and rest, and we will miss him. But we rejoice in knowing that we will one day be reunited with him in eternity. Rest well James.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters and brother, Lois Armentor (Kevin Schweisthal), David Armentor (Bonnie), and Emilie Armentor;; his aunt, Elaine Wood; his uncle, Mark Armentor; and his nieces and nephews, Christopher Landry (Tamika), Ron Landry (Gabby), Whitney Armentor, Hannah Armentor, Christian Armentor, Brandon Dutil (Jennifer) and Devin Dutil.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his uncle, Hinton “Bee” Wood; his brothers, Carl Armentor, Jr. and Gerald Armentor; and his uncle, Robert Armentor and wife Ann Armentor.
In keeping with James wishes, private services will be held at a later date.
