

RYNELLA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. John S. Broussard, age 76, at 10:00 am Friday, February 26, 2010 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church. Fr. Donovan Labbe will be the celebrant for the Mass. Carolyn Broussard, his granddaughter, will be the vocalist. Interment will be held in St. Marcellus Mausoleum. Military honors will be rendered by the V.F.W. Post 1982 of New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 pm until10:00 pm, with the recitation of the rosary at 6:45 pm. The funeral home will reopen Friday from 7:00 am until 9:30 am.
Mr. Broussard was a lifelong resident of New Iberia and passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Iberia Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
John was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a lifelong sugar cane farmer and past member of the Board of Directors of Cajun Co-op. Mr. Broussard was very active outside of farming. He served on the Board of Directors with the Bayou Petite Anse Drainage District, was a lifelong parishioner of St. Marcellus Catholic Church, where he served as a past Parish Council member, and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7050. John was also one of the co-founders of the Rynella Ballpark where he coached little league, and was a supporter of the 4-H Livestock shows, offering his help wherever needed.
John leaves behind many fond memories with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Olivia Laviolette Broussard; his children, Patrick Broussard and wife Melissa, Patsy B. Borel and husband Brent, and Ricky John Broussard and wife Laticia; seven grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and his sisters and brothers, Dorothy “Dot” Landry, Linda Yoder, Amilda Kennedy, and Joseph, Edmond, Bill and Jack Broussard all of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Olampe Romero Broussard, and a brother, Edwin J. Broussard.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Jonathan Broussard, Brandy Simmons, Josh Broussard, Lance Leleux, Trent Broussard and E.J. Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph, Edmond, Bill and Jack Broussard, and Bernard and Adam Laviolette.
