John Creed Dugas, an amazing husband, devoted father, and steadfast provider whose life was defined by faith, hard work, and love for his family. It is with great sorrow that the Dugas family announces his passing on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the age of 91.
John Creed Dugas was born on February 11, 1934, on Lake Dauterive to the late Emma Broussard Dugas and Antoine Dugas, Sr.
Mr. Dugas began his work career at the young age of 18 with Texaco, starting humbly as a cook. Through dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering work ethic, he steadily worked his way up to the position of Mechanic Foreman. Even on days when his work took him away from home, he always made sure that he was back home every night. After 37 years of loyal and honorable service, he retired, leaving behind a reputation of integrity, competence, and respect among those who worked alongside him.
A very faith-filled and devoted Catholic, Creed was a longtime member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith guided every aspect of his life and was evident in the way he loved, served, and provided for his family and community.
Known by many as a true “Jack of All Trades,” Creed seemed capable of doing anything he set his mind to. When not working for Texaco, he devoted his time to upholstery work and was an exceptional woodworker. One of his greatest sources of pride was his home—particularly the kitchen cabinets he crafted himself from trees felled on the family property. Ever practical, thoughtful, and prepared, Creed even built his own casket, a testament to his craftsmanship and his humble acceptance of life’s final chapter.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 72 years, Marion Bourque Dugas; his four daughters, Danella LeMaire; Credette Trappey (Bill); Angie LaGrange (Barry) and Trudy Hebert (Eric); eight grandchildren, Jeremy LeMaire (Alayna); Jason LeMaire; Jennifer L. Guilbeau (Kelby); Joey Trappey (Holly); Nic Trappey (Desirae); Cory LaGrange; Ryan LaGrange and Quinn Hebert; seventeen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his two sisters, Melba Verret and Mabel Broussard and two brothers, Claude Dugas and Tan Dugas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, with Fr. Matthew Higginbotham officiating and Fr. Keith Landry con celebrating. He will be laid to rest at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday from 8:30 am until 10:30 am with the recitation of the Rosary at 10:00 am.
