Jay or Junior as he was known to family and friends, was born August 27, 1934, in rural Iberia Parish, the 13th of 18 children born to Balthazar J Pellerin and Estelle Hebert Pellerin. As a young man, Joseph worked with his father farming their land. He then enlisted in the military joining the ranks of the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and completed his tour honorably discharged.
Jay worked with International Salt as a Mechanic with over 19 years of faithful service before retiring. Outside of his work, he maintained ties with his military brothers as a member of the VFW Post 1982 of New Iberia and American Legion Post 335 on Avery Island.
Although we will miss him, we are comforted in knowing that Joseph is at rest and reunited with his family. Rest well Jay.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Clarice Hebert Pellerin; his three daughters, Edie Pellerin Briley (Robert), Lisa Pellerin Horton (Doug) and Sharrid Pellerin LeJeune (Steve); five grandchildren, Andy Horton, Jason Horton, Emily Briley Human (Tevin), Steven Briley (Mia) and Samantha LeJeune; two great grandchildren, Mason and Beau Briley; and his last surviving brother, Johnny Pellerin.
Along with his parents, Junior is preceded in death by his 16 siblings.
In keeping with Jay’s wishes, no formal services will be held, and he will be laid to rest privately at a later date.
