Larry was born July 8, 1939 in New Iberia to the late Lovelace Derouen and Electa Buteaux Derouen, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Iberia Medical Center, with his family at his side.
Larry was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was retired from Ashland Chemicals (now Degussa) with over 35 years of service.
Larry, known by his grandchildren as “Poppy” and “Uncle Larry” to everyone else, was the type of person to have never met a stranger. He had a kind word for anyone he came across, and would help those in need with no expectations in return. He had a love for the outdoors and really enjoyed his time spent at the camp in Bird Island Chute fishing with his best friend, Dee Blanton. But his greatest joy was the time spent with his family. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Bradley Derouen of New Iberia, April Broussard of Loreauville, and Wendy Hebert (Kris) of Loreauville; eight grandchildren, Shay Derouen, Bray Derouen, Blake Braud, Tristan Derouen, Therin Broussard, Desmond Broussard, Kirsten Hebert and Paylyn Hebert; two great grandchildren, Kyzin Brousssard and Kingston Derouen; and his sister and brother, Margaret D. Henderson of Abilene, TX and Danny Derouen (Sheryl) of New Iberia.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Latiolais Derouen; and son-in-law, Chip Broussard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley, Shay, Tristan, Danny, and Drury Derouen, and Therin and Desmond Broussard. Honorary pallbearers are Derrick and Dany Joe Derouen.
