It is with deep sorrow that the Blanchard family announces the passing of their beloved matriarch, Lois Ann Bonin Blanchard, who passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 21, 2026, with her family at her side. She was 76.
Lois was born on June 7, 1949, in New Iberia to the late James Bonin and the late Nolia David Bonin. She was one of four children born to that union and was raised in a family deeply rooted in Cajun heritage. From an early age, she learned the values of hard work, kindness, and compassion toward others—qualities she carried with her throughout her life.
Many will remember Lois for her long and dedicated career as the owner and operator of Lois Ann’s Beauty Shop. For more than five decades, she cared for her many loyal clients, offering expert haircare, styling, and beauty services. Her shop was more than a place of business—it was a place where stories were shared, laughter was abundant, and friendships were formed.
Outside of her work, Lois cherished time spent with family and friends. She was an avid bowler and a longtime member of the New Iberia Bowlers Association from the 1960s through the 1980s, where she enjoyed both the sport and the camaraderie of her teammates. She was also a member of the Beri Bee’s Quilting Club, where she lovingly crafted handmade quilts for family and friends and decorated her home with her beautiful creations.
Lois had a genuine love for people and never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation. She had a gift for turning strangers into friends with her warmth and curiosity. Her kindness drew others to her and was truly one of her most cherished qualities.
Above all, Lois’ greatest love was her family. Holidays were especially meaningful, filled with her homemade candy and her famous fig pies, which brought joy to all who gathered. More than anything, it was the unconditional love she gave so freely that will be remembered most.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family will forever hold her memory in their hearts. They find comfort in the hope of one day being reunited in Heaven. Until that day, may she rest in eternal peace.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Joel Blanchard Songne (Jeffrey), Jodi Blanchard Rafuse (Cory), Kevin Blanchard, Michael Blanchard (Molly), and Keith Blanchard; her grandchildren, Amanda Songne Ledet, Abby Songne, Aaron Songne, Benjamin Blanchard, and Emily Blanchard; nine great-grandchildren; her dearest friend, Nellie Leger; and her beloved cat, Mini.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard P. Blanchard; and her siblings, James Bonin, Jr., Lillian Workman, and David Bonin.
Funeral services celebrating Lois’ life will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 11:00 am with Fr. Keith Landry officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael Blanchard, Ricky Glaubrecht, Keith Blanchard, Jeffrey Songne, Aaron Songne, and Benjamin Blanchard. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Blanchard, Nellie Leger, Brunette Kokenge, Irma Glaubrecht and Angela Glaubrecht Thibodaux.
