Mary Escavera Pommier

ZWOLLE, LA – Funeral services will be celebrated for Mary E. “Effie” Silas Delcambre, age 94, at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 12 at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary at 6:30 pm. Visiting will resume on Monday in Zwolle at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church from 11:00 am until time of services.

Mary was born in Noble, LA on May 21, 1920 to the late Prude Escavera and Martha Paddie Escavera and passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at her residence with her family at her side.

Mary was a member of the Choctaw-Apache Tribe of Ebarb. She owned and operated Delcambres Texaco and Delcambres Café in New Iberia in years past. She was a member of the Rebekah’s having held all offices in the organization, and loved sewing and socializing with family and friends. Mary adored her family and cherished the time spent with them. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Daniel Silas (Anne), Dr. David Silas (Sandy), Johnnie Silas (Alesia), Effie Silas, and Dorothy Angela Delcambre Boney (Jeff); 27 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 26 great great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Loretta M. Babin; granddaughters, Tina Y. Buford and Vickie M. Basden; grandson, Scottie Boney; great grandson, Joshua J. Babin; and great granddaughter, Heather Silas.

Pallbearers will be Justin Delcambre, Kevin Silas, John Martinez, Joshua Basden, Tim Silas and Daniel Silas, III. Honorary pallbearers are Effie, David, Daniel and Johnnie Silas, Angie Boney and Jeff Boney.
