

NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Ms. Phyllis Cook Broussard, age 83, at 2:00 pm Monday, October 11, 2010 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 9:00 am until time of services.
Ms. Broussard passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at her daughter’s residence, with her family at her side.
Phyllis was born April 11, 1927 in Oxford, England to Sydney and Florence Sammons Cook. She was a resident of Weeks Island for 25 years, until moving to Lydia in 1971. Ms. Broussard worked with the United States Postal Service for over 25 years, spending most of that time in the New Iberia office.
Ms. Broussard enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Lydia Homemakers Club. She was a loving mother, grand and great grandmother, sister and friend, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Survivors include her five children, Stephanie Simoneaux and husband Alvin of Franklin, Keith Broussard and wife Kathy of Virginia, Colleen Guillot and husband Wayne of New Iberia, Philip Broussard and wife Sandy of Jeanerette, and Reggie Broussard and wife Janna of New Iberia; 15 grandchildren, Wesley Simoneaux, Renee’ Tibbs, Kathy Guarisco, Rebecca Rosario, Jeffrey Guillot, Brooke McGlasson, Holly Cantrell, Keisha Aker, Keith Broussard, Jr., Alicia Sherwood, Bryan Broussard, Kellie Broussard, Kara Broussard, Trevor Broussard, and Trenton Broussard; 20 great grandchildren; and her sister, Marjorie Weedon of England.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sydney and Florence Cook; brother, Alec Cook; and sister, Carol Thomas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Reggie, Philip, and Trevor Broussard, Alvin Simoneaux, Wayne Guillot, and Wesley Simoneaux.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Wilfred J. Barrilleaux, her companion and dear friend, who took such wonderful care of her.
