It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Polly Freyou Breaux, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished matriarch, who peacefully departed this life on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 92. Polly was born on October 11, 1932, on Avery Island, LA, to the late Ambrose and Clara Hebert Freyou.
Polly lived a life brimming with love, joy, and devotion to her family. She was a nurturing and devoted mother, the best grandmother to her grandchildren, and a proud great-grandmother. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she adored and who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Polly dedicated more than 15 years of her life to serving as the librarian at Catholic High School, where she touched the lives of countless students and faculty. A lifelong lover of reading, she instilled a passion for learning in everyone around her. Fluent in French, Polly embraced her Cajun roots, often expressing her love for Cajun French music and dancing with unparalleled grace. She was an excellent dancer, light on her feet, and her beautiful smile and vibrant spirit filled every room.
A passionate advocate for her heritage, Polly was deeply involved with CODOFIL, taking great pride in preserving and promoting Cajun culture. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, as her infectious smile, positive energy, and warm personality left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her sons, Brian Breaux and wife Kay; Marcel Breaux and wife Kim and Rene James Breaux; five grandchildren, Cy Breaux, Jessica Rae Breaux Cooper and husband Robert; Travis Reel; Jason Roberts and Sarah D. Trahan and husband Tyler; six great grandchildren, Maksim Breaux, Sophia Cooper, Richard “Cash” Cooper, Elise Pothier, Wyatt Trahan and Ella Trahan and one sister, Barbara Jean Lennie.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ray James Breaux.
A Mass of Catholic Burial celebrating Polly’s life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Fr Ed Degeyter will be the officiant. Polly will be laid to rest following the service at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.
Family request that visiting hours be observed on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church beginning at 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Brian Breaux, Marcel Breaux, Rene Breaux, Daniel Frioux, Travis Reel and Robert Cooper. Cy Breaux is an honorary pallbearer.
