Sharon Mestayer Hargrave

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Sharon Mestayer Hargrave, age 70, at 1:00 pm Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Steve LeBlanc officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Thursday until service time.

A native of Fort Worth, TX and resident of New Iberia, Sharon passed away on, Monday, November 3, 2014 at Iberia Medical Center.

Sharon attended Mount Carmel Convent from Kindergarten until her graduation in 1961. She was a very kind hearted and giving person who volunteered for numerous organizations, including The Social Service Center, St. Francis Diner and Dauterive Hospital for 17 plus years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she volunteered as a religion teacher for many years. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, President of the Volunteer Auxiliary organization of Dauterive Hospital, H2U, Iberia Parish Council on Aging and the New Iberia Singles’ Group. Sherry, as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, enjoyed traveling and religious pilgrimages, attending weekly prayer meetings and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren and family. Her life was truly one of service to others.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Hargrave Viator and husband Bret of New Iberia; two sons, Patrick Hargrave and wife Tammy of New Iberia and John Lawrence Hargrave and wife Diane of Coteau; six grandchildren, Brandon Hargrave and wife Kalie; Tori Hargrave; Jordan Hargrave; McKenzie Viator; Madelyn Viator and Meghan Viator; one great grandson Karson Hargrave and another great grandson expected in April; her sister, Denise M. Helscher and husband Kurt of New Iberia and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lawrence and Betty Jo Cartwright Mestayer and one brother, David Mestayer.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Hargrave, John Lawrence Hargrave, Bret Viator, Brandon Hargrave, Jordan Hargrave, Eric Hargrave and Kurt Helscher.

Gene Trammell, Ashley H. Buteau, Lauren M. Barfield and Jennifer Mestayer will serve as honorary pallbearers.
