A native of Lafayette and resident of Lydia, Mr. Gates passed away at 4:24 am on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Steven was a lifelong member of the NRA, United Transportation Union, Brotherhood of Railroad Conductors Federation and supporter of the National WWII Museum. Steven worked as a railroad conductor for Union Pacific for 40 years. He loved politics, football and the 2nd Amendment.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanna Broussard Gates; daughters, L’ree Gates Hebert and husband Johnny of Lydia, Keegan Gates and fiancé Cord Landry of New Iberia; sisters-in-law, Toni Lala and husband Warren, Sheila Herpin and husband Ralph; mother-in-law, Glorious Broussard; grandchildren, Jenna Delcambre, Gabrielle Hebert, Holden Hebert, Caleb Landry and god-son, Nicholas Lala
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Marjorie Brinton Gates; brothers, Larry Wayne Gates, James “Jimmy” Alvin Gates and father-in-law Wilbert Joseph Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Herpin, Zachary Herpin, Nikki Gates Hebert, Lar Gates, Dirk Gates and David Gates.
