Agnes Gray Smith

Mrs. Smith was born on February 16, 1931 in New London to Lewis Gray and Diana Pepin Gray. She attended Great Neck Grammar School and graduated in 1949 from Chapman Tech in New London. She then went on to school at Morse Business School in Hartford, graduating from there as well.

Mrs. Smith married her husband, Berton Smith, on September 19, 1953 at the First Baptist Church of Waterford. She worked at Pfizer in accounting until she raised her family. Afterwards, she ran her own business, A&B Tax Service, before working at Tunxis Sporting Goods as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waterford, Goshen Ladies Auxiliary, Konomic Grange #41, and a Girl Scout leader for Great Neck School.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Berton Smith; sons, Douglas (Janet) Smith of Canterbury, and Samuel (Amy) Smith of Lebanon; three daughters, Rosanna Parks of Waterford, Mary Sarafinas of Waterford, and Debora (Kenny) Hickerson of Ellenville, NY; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her brothers, Lewis and David Gray, and two granddaughters.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 6 until 8 PM at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT. A funeral service will take place on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Waterford, 105 Rope Ferry Rd., Waterford, CT. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford.
