Love and miss you Les. Grateful for the life we had together ❤️

in Vancouver w Andrew and Ian on this first anniversary. Remember holding Les’ hand as she took her final breath. Grateful to have survived this year yet miss her daily. Les is part of me and I take her with me everywhere, and experience her through Andrew and Ian, Neil, Aileen, Adam, Rachel, Jan, Nena, Carol, all her family, and all lucky to have been touched by her. "Holding Leslie’s hand, my soulmate of 40 years took her last breath after a brave battle with an ultrarare disease that relentlessly destroyed her faculties and stole her from us in just three months from the first symptoms. Cruel and devastating as this fatal disease sounds, it will never steal Leslie’s memory.

When asked recently what comes to mind when I think of Leslie, I immediately said “her beautiful dark brown opal eyes”.  I first saw those eyes at a Pharmacology Christmas party in University College Dublin in 1982.  Before the party somebody told me their friend, Leslie, had a crush on me.  When I saw Leslie at the party, I couldn't believe that this stunningly beautiful woman would be open to my approach.  In our 40 years together since, Leslie 's love for me was steadfast, faithful, and pure, no matter the challenges. 

Leslie’s beauty was also manifested by her remarkable intelligence, blessed with that rare combination of left brain-right brain attributes.  One side enabled her career as a Consultant Occupational Toxicologist, education advocate, and genealogist, the other side, her talents as an interior designer, artist, cake decorator, and Cat Whisperer. Yes, Cat Whisperer! 

Although a gentle soul, Leslie was a fierce advocate. When it came to Andrew and Ian’s education, she morphed into Ninga advocacy mode, ensuring they received the quality of education they deserved.

In closing, when we visited Leslie for the last time, we saw a beautiful woman at peace, dressed in the spectacular outfit she bought in January, but never got to ware to her close friend’s daughter’s wedding in April.  Leslie, I love you so much and don’t know what I’ll do without you.  I ask for the gift of your resilience to help me reimagine my future journey.  Regardless, you’ll always be with me and I’m so grateful for the 40 years we had together as lovers, friends; my soulmate.

Thinking of you and sending my love and deepest sympathy to Roger, Andrew and Ian. 

I am so sad Leslie is gone. I remember so many fun times as children at our grandma and grandpa's house, all the cousins, playing in the garden. Leslie loved to go barefoot outside, I’d forgotten that till my brother reminded me the other day. We were cousins living in different countries but always made the most of our time together. As teenagers, we spent hours dreaming about the Bay City Rollers, we kept scrapbooks full of their photos. As we moved into adulthood, we grew apart, each having children and leading our own busy lives but we re-connected in our later years and I counted Leslie as, not only a cousin but a confidante. I will miss being able to share the details of my life with her. Rest easy Leslie, love always xoxoxo

Roger, you might not remember me. I was one of Leslie’s BSc Pharmacology class in UCD. I remember her fondly as a determined, witty, intelligent, and friendly classmate. We definitely had a fun time in Merville House that year. My sincere condolences to you and your sons on her loss! Sincerely. Niamh Moran. Class of ‘83! 

Sorry to hear of Leslie's rare neurological disease and  her passing. Dear Roger, please accept my sincere condolences on the sad loss of Leslie. As a student of Pharmacology in UCD, Leslie showed real enthusiasm for learning. She was a pleasure to teach and get to know as a graduate student. Her memory will always shine brightly in our lives, and we are all the richer for having known her.

 I have fond memories of Leslie from out time at UCD, where we were “Group 23 students” and part of the Pharmacology Honours class of 83. 
From first year, Leslie stood out as the gentle, cheerful, Scottish beauty, who could always be found between lectures surrounded by friends and admirers. As a graduate student, Leslie demonstrated her strength of character and talent as a researcher. Despite the challenges of PhD work, Leslie always had time to check in with colleagues and classmates and provide much needed and appreciated support. 
I am so saddened to hear of her passing. 
 It was a privilege to know her and be part of her world even for a few years.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about Leslie’s illness and death. Leslie was the upper classman of Iona’s tribe at Merville and my first mentor. Her calm attitude and absolutely unique laugh/giggle ( along with that twinkle in her eye) got me through many a failed experiment in “the cabin”. I know she made a positive impact on everyone who crossed her path and she will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Roger we are sending you and the boys and all of Leslie’s family so much love at this very sad and lonely time xxxxx

Very sad to hear of Leslie's passing. I remember her fondly from the many Sunday evenings when Roger and Leslie would play bridge with us in my mother's house in Stillorgan back in the early 80s.
