Waterford- Maryella (Rella) Bergman, 85 of 15 Kenyon Road, Waterford died peacefully at her home on Monday, November 14, 2016. She leaves behind a family that will always be grateful for her endless love and support.
Born on December 1st 1930, in Hudson, MA to John S. and Bernice E. Bruce. Rella, aka Grammy, Meme, Memers and Mom had many names and wore many hats although very few shoes for she loved to be barefoot. She was a beautiful kind, caring, forgiving and generous woman. Rella was a dedicated mother who raised four sons that grew up to be fine men. She was a Sunday school teacher, a foster parent and a Corrections Officer at York Prison for 10 years.
Rella was a unifying force that brought all of us together. We will always cherish the memories of her singing “Daisy Daisy” on the red wooden swing outside; watching “I Love Lucy”, canning tomatoes with Poppa and reading to her grandchildren. She was always playing music in the house, Man of La Mancha, Perry Como and Frank Sinatra to name a few. We will never forget the road trips we took in the station wagon, our vacations in Maine, her swimming far out in the lake, and her love of loons and frogs. She was a great dancer, especially with the door frame, and loved rocking all of her grandbabies to sleep with a lullaby. “Meme would have us gather rocks from her driveway so that we could throw them into the brook near her house and to an adult that may seem like nothing special but to us as a kid that was a lot of fun”. She was a great listener who had a genuine interest in all of our stories and she taught us the simple joy in doing puzzles, watching game shows and playing cards, especially Skip-Bo! Rella welcomed all of us with open arms and as our family grew, so did her heart. She was a great teacher through example and gave us life lessons right up until her last breath.
For such a tiny woman, she has left a huge void and will be sorely missed. She is survived by Charles Stanley Vose & wife Nantsi of Norwich, James E. Vose & wife Jannet of Waterford, and Richard B. Vose & wife Cathy of Waterford. Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren Jamie D. Vose, Regina A. Vose, Javlyn L. Carr, John S. Vose, Allix K. Vose, Robert T. Vose, Colby B. Vose, Brooklyn B. Vose, Jaylie L. Vose, Kasin J. Vose, Sidney T. Kogut, Jesse O Chadwich, Landon M. Kogut and Raeya S. Carr.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence L. Bergman; son Michael O Vose; sister Francis D. Hudyma; brother Robert Bruce; and her parents, John & Bernice Bruce.
