Our mom Nancy, touched many lives and hearts throughout her life. Her compassion for life was exhibited by the various things she did, and the commitments she was involved in. At a young age, she lost her father and began working at several retail shops in Norwich and babysat for a prominent family physician. She was able to put herself through Nursing School at St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford, graduating in 1956. She then began work at the Norwich State Hospital as a nurse where she met her husband David. During their courtship, he swept her off her feet and they were married on November 24, 1960. After her retirement from Norwich State Hospital in 1992, she continued to work as a nurse at Beechwood Nursing Home in New London for several years. She maintained a strong faith and held several different positions at her church, including, Mothers Circle, Rosary Society, CCD Teacher, and Mass Lector. She also did volunteering at Red Cross and volunteering at elementary school libraries.
Her passions in life included, gardening, shopping, cleaning her home, and traveling. Her biggest pass time was talking on the phone where she earned the nickname, Rhona Barrett. Some of her most treasured traditions were preparing the pasta and 7 fish meal on Christmas Eve, bread making at Easter and making Italian cookies for special occasions. She also recognized each of our birthdays with a special meal. She had many quotes with the most important being, "Follow your heart, and be true to yourself".
Nancy lived a simple life. She was very well respected by many. She gave unconditional love, support, and acceptance to everyone in her life. She was always honest in her opinions giving her best advice. She was a kind and gentle soul and we will be missed dearly.
