

Mr. Neal was born on July 29, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA the son of Raymond and Catherine Toner Neal. He married Adeline Julia Gibson on December 25, 1942 in Philadelphia. He served 20 years in the US Naval Submarine Service. Upon his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Neal joined Allstate Insurance Company as a salesman and for 25 years provided uncompromised service to his clients.
Mr. Neal attended schools in South Philadelphia and joined the Navy in 1941. In January 1942, he was sent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to assist with re-construction of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Later that year, he traveled to the Submarine Base in Groton, CT to begin submarine training and subsequently served in the American and Asiatic-Pacific theaters of operation aboard the USS Requin SS-481, USS Cubera SS-347 and USS Irex SS-482. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, Submarine Combat Insignia, Good Conduct Medal with 1 star and the WWII Victory Medal.
Mr. Neal was later promoted to Chief of the Boat and made many voyages to Europe and the Mediterranean.
Mr. Neal was a natural athlete and excelled in baseball and golf and was a member of the New London Country Club for many years.
Mr. Neal’s quick wit, infectious smile and enthusiasm for life touched all he met.
He is survived by his loving wife, his devoted daughter Patricia Neal and her husband Steven Lang of North Stonington, his late son Raymond Ronald Neal, his grandson Christian Neal and his wife Juana of Scottsdale, Arizona and their two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Aidan. His grandson, Robert Neal of Newtown, CT and Mark Neal of Los Angeles, CA. Also, grandsons Raymond Neal of Colchester, CT and John Neal of Lebanon, CT and Michael Neal. Mr. Neal was pre-deceased by a grandson, Thomas.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care given to Mr. Neal and his family.
