He was born on October 16, 1941, in Danbury, the son of the Evelyn Barrett of Danbury and the late Joseph Cher.
Mr. Cher retired from the United States Army after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Sandra Cher; his sons Lawrence E. McCarvell of Waterbury, Philip McCarvell of San Diego, Scott McCarvell and his wife Donna of N. Stonington, and Robert Cher, Jr.; his daughters Kimberly Pasanio and her husband Shane of E. Haddam, Kathleen A. McCarvell of New London, and Jacqueline German and her husband Bromley of Wolcott; his siblings Stanley, Fay and Laura Cher; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren,and his faithful companion Chance.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 6th at 11:30am at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. Burial with military honors will follow at 1pm in the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery, Bow La., Middletown.
