Sue was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and with her mother Evelyn later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. There she attended Aiken High School and the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a degree in Special Education. After beginning her career in teaching, she married and moved to Dunoon, Scotland. She fell in love with the people and beauty of Scotland. She became most partial to Highland Cows she saw, and loved knitting the local yarns. She was also a dedicated member of the Holy Loch Chorus, active in many performances.
Susan was exceptionally proud of her family: daughter Katherine of Chicago, Illinois, and son Matthew, his wife Sarah, and their children Molly and Rowan of Melbourne, Florida. She recently remarked with pride on the accomplishments of Dr. Sarah, the culinary and managerial skills of Matt, and Kate's work in wildlife rehabilitation. Nothing made her happier than the time she spent with her beloved family. The laughter she got from her kids and grandkids would ring through the house, a beautiful sound.
Susan was an exceptionally talented quilt designer and maker. Although most of her quilts were designed with special friends in mind, some received recognition in quilt shows. Her quilt studio had become her happy place where she found frustration, satisfaction, and peace. She will be missed greatly but remembered fondly by her husband for her extensive kitchen knowledge, voracious reading, and delightful habit of doing the Sunday crossword puzzle in ink. And her smile.
A celebration of life ceremony is planned; details are forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory may be made to Dogs for Better Lives, an organization whose mission was close to her heart, at https://dogsforbetterlives.org.
