Vicky was my badminton teammate at NLHS.  We had no training except hitting the birdie back and forth to each other in gym.  The first team slammed the birdie across the net. We literally learned how to slam at the championship and came in second place. She was a lot of fun. Peace & blessings to the family & friends.

Hey Family,
What I remember most that warms my heart and makes me laugh is the memory of Naadirah sporting the same hair style as Vicki and toting a bingo card after a weekend stay with Vicki. Vicki's response to the obvious was always "well duh"... when Tracy and I came to pick up Naadirah, now our "lil Vicki" and asked if she had a good time with Aunt Vicki her response was "well duh"! All Tracy and I could do was burst into tears of laughter.

I love you big sis!  You will truly be missed.  You were my friend, sister and confidant.  What a blessing you were to me!  Rest in peace big sis.

I just heard the news and initially my heart ached for Kimani, Chuck, Tracy and the rest of your family.  Then so many great memories came to mind and I couldn't help to smile.  You were absolutely one-of-a-kind...a blunt, hilarious, genuine, kindhearted, smart, and strong woman.  Your house was where everyone came together, you were everyone's Auntie Vicky and once someone got to know you - they became part of your family.  I will cherish those memories and old times. I am so grateful to you for raising such a wonderful man. Kimani is such a great father and role model to our girls.  He always spoke of how great a parent you were, and I know he wanted to be like you in that way. I'll never forget the first time he brought me home, he said I needed to pass the Vicki test. :)  I'll never forget that Christmas and our time together. You will be missed.

Aunt Vicky,

Knowing you all of my life has been one of my greatest joys.  

From my first Donna Summer Concert, to hanging out with you at Southern with all your cool college friends,  to our days of playing slots at Foxwoods and you dragging me to Bingo, the memories I have from you will last my lifetime.

I'm comforted knowing that you are in a better place, at peace, without pain, with loved ones. Although you were taken from us way to soon, God has a plan for us all and it was Gods will to have you now. 

 You were only 27 years old when you took on the responsibility of raising "the kids" as you affectionately called me and Chucky.   Not only were we teenagers but we were hurt teenagers that not only lost a mother but also lost a grandmother.  That was an enormous undertaking even for you but you did what you had to do and I'm forever grateful. Our lives could have went down different paths had you not stepped in to nurture us and care for us when you did.  I remember how you always came to my softball games and basketball games and supported anything that I wanted to do.  Whether it was making rap songs out of my geometry theorems to telling me that if I hit a home run during softball games I would be off punishment, you really knew how to motivate me!

I will always respect the fact that you had such an opinion and voice and knew how to use it.  If you saw injustice you spoke up, if someone needed help you were there to lend a helping hand.  Our home was a revolving door of family and friends that were down on their luck that needed a place to stay.  That was just who you were, and that heart of gold will be missed. 

I won't be there to see you off but like Kimani said, I'll see you on the other side. I love you Aunt Vicky, forever and always.  Tracy McLaughlin aka….”favorite niece”

Vicky,when Kimani called me,and told me you had passed away,such a feeling of sadness washed over me.I can't quite describe it,through-out the evening so many memories came to mind.Memories of when we first met,many years ago,meeting your family& friends,Ms Connie,Tauheeda,Pat,Charles,your little sisters,Theresa&Lisa,Miriam,Fat Daddy,little Kev,best friend Margo,and later Aisha,your sister-in-law Brenda,Chucky&Tracy.They all became my family too,we may not see each other often,but when we do,there's no question,We are family.You were the ultimate mom to are son Kimani,and I will never forget how you opened your home to your nephew&niece,Chucky&Tracy,after their mothers passing,you were so young to take on such a huge responsibility,there were no questions,or hesitation,nothing was more important to you than family,you were happiest when surronded by family,I remember all the kids @ the house,Kimani,Aisha,Kariem,Ahmed,Jamal,Alecia,Chucky&Tracy,WOW!Their all grown now,and they all love you Vicky,we all do..God Bless You..Love Manny.

Aunt Vicky is one of a kind. As I recently told Kimani, what a smart, funny, and special woman! During my high school years, she embraced me as family and I have so many amazing memories of hanging out with her, Tray, Chuck, Kimani, and others over the years. What a presence -- honest, caring, loving, and never apologetic! In many ways, I credit Aunt Vicky for keeping me on the right track over the years (who else would let me stay with them during my turbulent teenage years?), and I'm so happy that my children got to meet and learn how special she was. RIP Aunt Vicky--gone too soon, never forgotten.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Aunt Vick you will be missed by me so very much. Your influence and humor is something that I will always cherish for the rest of my life. My deepest sympathy to the McLaughlin- Silva- Shakur family. I worked with Vicky at NUSC in New London for several years. Vicky always had a way of making me laugh, or her heart to heart talks would inspire me. Her generosity to me and my children was above & beyond. I have good memories of Vicky and I know she made my world a better place. She had that effect on everyone who knew her. God bless and rest in peace.

My heart aches, at the loss of my sister and friend.  I have so many good memories to cherish, and smile about. I choose to focus on the good times we had growing up and raising our children together.  Not to mention the countless parties and hanging out in New Haven, and Lincoln Lake Lodge.  I could ask for no better friend, for you were my best friend.  I miss you girlfriend, I pray you find the peace you so deserve.

vicki I was saddend to hear of your passing on saturday.  Although i have not seen you in years, i often thought of you and the fun we used to have at your house in New London.  May God bless the family during this most difficult time on the loss of your mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  I will never forget you.

Vicky, you were a major part of my growing up years in New London. You filled my life with fun and laughter. You had a beautiful independent mind and a heart of gold.

Even though she is now gone, 
Her memory will keep us from feeling alone.
Her smile and face will never fade,
We will think of her as we go through each day.
We remember the good times; and days spent together; all of these memories will be implanted forever.

Aunt Vicky, you have touched so many lives in your short time here. I will always be appreciative and grateful for all that you have done for me. To say that you will be missed is an understatement.
