Audrey Edwards Manthey, mother of Troy Michael (wife Jill), Tristan Edwards (wife Melissa) and Tisbee Jane (husband Dirk), passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the age of 63. Mums was the proud grandmother of Lindsey Marie, Gracie Mae, Jack Michael, Tristan Grant and Patrick Thomas Manthey, and Maddux Michael Dantin. They were collectively the light of her life. She is survived by all of her children and grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her family “across the pond”, her beloved brother, Michael, his wife, Anne, and their three children, Lee, Rose and Josh. Survived also by sister, Thea, and brother, Werner.
She has joined her beloved parents, Adi Marianne Edwards and Walter James Goss Edwards.
She was born in Burgsteinfurt, Germany, and grew up in Ipswich, United Kingdom. She moved to New Orleans in 1965 when she married Frederick Manthey and started her family. She was an avid cook and baker who was better known as the “ lil red chef ”. She warmed the hearts of countless through her baking and cooking, and if you had a piece of her famous poppy seed bread, you know what we mean. She loved her work and her clients as if they were an extension of her own family. She was also very proud of her British heritage and was not shy about sharing it with you.
In remembrance of her joyous spirit, the family would ask that you wear her favorite color, red, to the services.
In honor of her life, friends and relatives are invited to Jacob Schoen & Son 3827 Canal St. New Orleans for her memorial visitation on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 9:00 a.m until 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fore Kids Foundation, 11005 Lapalco Blvd. Avondale, LA 70094, an organization benefitting children’s charities.
