

Catherine Frances Luthjens Schleismann , age 89, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 12:30 a.m. at home in Metairie. She was born on October 4, 1922 in New Orleans and resided on Piety Street for 72 years. She also resided in Chalmette or 10 years, and Metairie with her daughter for the 6 years after Katrina. After losing her beloved husband 53 years ago, she devoted her life to raising her three children. Always a caregiver, she cared for her aging parents while her three brothers served in WWII. At this time she was also managing her brother’s “Lucky Star” grocery in the Marigny.
Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family, attending Mass, Sewing, and Music. She was a Parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Orleans until it’s closing , Our Lady of Lourdes in Violet and most recently Mass at Christopher Inn where she was reunited with her old friends from Sts. Peter & Paul. She retired from the Provincial Hotel in the French Quarter in 1995.
Survived by her three children: Catherine “Cathy” S. Williams, Milton E. Schleismann, Jr. (wife Nancy), and Phyllis Mary Schleismann; four grandchildren: Keith (wife Jessica ) and James “Jimmy” Williams, Jr. (wife Toni) and Margaret and Natalie Schleismann, who knew her as “Granny” and 6 great-grandchildren: Trey, Caroline, Ann Claire, Abigail, Emma Catherine and Avery; brother-in-law and constant companion Irwin Schleismann, sister-in-law, Shirley T. Luthjens , and dog “Buddy”. Also survived by Godchild Donna S. Clement , and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Milton Edwin “Bubby” Schleismann, Sr., her parents William Jerome “Bill” and Johanna Vogel Luthjens; brothers William A. “Willie”, Jerome A. and Henry J. Luthjens; son-in-law James “Jim” Williams, Sr. and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Theresa Williams.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Jacob Schoen & Son, 3826 Canal St., New Orleans, Louisiana on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary and a Requiem Mass at 1:00 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery No. 3. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Masses preferred in lieu of flowers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. David Myers and his staff and Nurse Jodi Richardson from Nurses Registry for the love and care they have given to Catherine.
