

Charles Edward Burns was the son of Peter Burns of Armagh, Ireland and Elizabeth Stampley Burns of Natchez MS. He was born on March 11, 1921 in Natchez, MS. Charles was a resident of New Orleans LA since 1959. He served in the U S Army during World War II and was Honorably Discharged.Before relocating to New Orleans, Charles was a professional photographer in his own photography studio in Natchez MS. In New Orleans he used his business management skills in sales as well as in the educational setting until he retired from active employment with the State of Louisiana.Charles was a silent hero and the wind underneath many wings. Charles took great satisfaction in helping both family and friends. His greatest joy was to make others happy; it was never about his personal pleasure.In his retirement, Charles volunteered at the Aquarium of Americas for many years. His passion for traveling took him and his wife to numerous foreign countries as far as Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland to name a few.
Charles was a member of the "Downtowners" Social and Men's Club which he and his wife enjoyed for many years.
Charles also enjoyed playing horses at the NOLA Fair Grounds and visiting the area casinos. He spent a great deal of time at home using his computer skills to stay informed of current events.
He was an accomplished "Ballroom" dancer which he used to his advantage; he loved to twirl his wife around any dance floor and their home to LOUD "Latin & Classical" music.
Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Cynara Esther, three daughters, Charlene Gee (Larry), Ramona Dumas, Charmaine B Jackson, a step-daughter, Carol Sterling (Eric), two step-sons Eddie Raskin (Dianne), Jeffery Raskin (Marilou), 15 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren which includes his favorite family friend "Kailee Elise McClendon".
He was preceded in death by one brother James Smith and one daughter Sheron Coleman.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St.; on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and continue until service time. Interment will follow at Lakelawn Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.schoencanalstreet.com
