Jeffrey Charles Blaum, 58, passed away with his wife and children by his side on December 29, 2012, after a brief illness. Born on December 7, 1954 Jeff was a native of Reading, Pa. He was the son of Frances Considine Blaum and the late Joseph Aloysius Blaum, and the brother of Thomas (Karen), Joseph, and Michael (Vicki) Blaum, all of whom live in the Reading area. Jeff graduated from Mt. St. Mary's College in 1976; he soon moved to New Orleans to work on the new space shuttle program at Lockheed Martin, where he met his beloved wife, Lisa Ann Whitson. They married in 1984. Jeff was the devoted father of Kristen Michelle and Megan Elizabeth Blaum. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews. Jeff embraced his adopted city of New Orleans with gusto, becoming an avid Saints and LSU fan. He enthusiastically took part in all things New Orleans, from food and festivals to football and music. He enjoyed taking visitors on driving tours, promoting the essence and flavor of the city he had come to love. He was a member of St. Dominic Parish and, after losing his home to Hurricane Katrina, he persevered with grace, retained a positive attitude, and resettled his family in Lakeview. He was excited to see the many post-Katrina improvements in the city, a favorite of which was the revitalized City Park. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and his Monday night basketball buddies. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to “New Orleans City Park” at [email protected] or “American Cancer Society”. Family and friends are invited to the visitation Friday, January 4th beginning at 12:00 noon, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 in the chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, New Orleans.
