

Kenneth Odell McElrath, Sr. passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010. He was a man of many interests, a well read and honorable man. Beloved husband of 65 years to Verna Keith McElrath, loving father of MaryAnn Ballero, Betty Nunez, Janie Heitz, Ken McElrath, Jr., Teresa Gray, Keith McElrath and Trudy Bordelon. Grandfather of Frank Ballero, Nikki Ballero, Jessica, Casey and Jenna Heitz, Caitlin and Devin McElrath, Rich, Rob and Ryan Gray, Sean, Heather and Chris McElrath, Jenny, Dave, Steven and Joseph Bordelon. Great grandfather of seven. He was preceded in death by his mother Anna Sisk and father Howell McElrath.
Age 89 years. A native of Minturn, Ark and a resident of New Orleans for 65 years. During WWII, Ken served in the US Navy aboard the USS George Clymer in the Pacific and European theatres as Yeoman Petty Officer 3rd class and was also a chaplain’s assistant. He was awarded many medals for his service. He was educated in California, culminating in an Associates degree before joining the Navy. He worked 30 years for the United States Postal Service retiring in 1977 as the Safety Officer at the Main Office.
Visitation will be Friday, May 7th, 2010 at Jacob Schoen, 3827 Canal St, New Orleans, LA with family visitation from 6-7 pm and general visitation from 7-9pm. On Saturday, May 8th, 2010 visitation will be held at Divine Mercy Parish (formerly Nativity of Our Lord) at 3325 Loyola Dr in Kenner, from 11am-12, followed by Mass at 12:00 Noon and then interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
