On October 24, 2012 New Orleans lost one of its most beloved eccentrics. Patricia Marion Early Sipos died peacefully in her sleep in the city that she loved. She was 90 years old. Patsy led a life less ordinary. She was a graduate of Brescia College, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a full scholarship. During World War II, Patsy was the star attraction as the local USO where her perfectly pitched voice entertained the troops. She spent twenty-five years in a fulfilling career as the manager of the historic Upper Pontalba Apartments. Patsy’s home was always open to wayward guests where they could count on her warm hospitality, a hot meal, and lively conversations. She was well traveled, well read, and well versed in all things political. Patsy was an extraordinary mother and friend to all who met her.
She is survived and dearly missed by her nine beautiful children, Frank T. Sipos, Mary Ellen Eagleson, John Sipos, Patrick Sipos, Karen Schlau, Michael Sipos, Jacqueline Benoit, Joseph Sipos, and Elizabeth Sipos, fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and her siblings John Michael Early Sr., Rosemary Ward, Jacqueline Garic and Thomas A. Early Jr. Patsy was preceded in death by her father Thomas A . Early Sr., mother Rose Marie Early, sisters Clare Rosenmeier and Margaret Durel, and brother Patrick John Douglas Early.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012, at 10:00am at Saint Louis Cathedral, 615 Pere Antoine Alley, New Orleans, LA 70116. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery # 3 located on 3421 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119.
