

Sandra Lopinto Summers, 65, of New Orleans, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Friday, October 11, 2013. She was born to the late Joseph and Mary Lopinto, July 17, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was sister to Joseph Lopinto Jr. (wife Rita Lopinto) and the late Arlene Creely. Sandra graduated from Fortier High School in 1966 and graduated from beauty school in Shelby, North Carolina. She married the late Thomas Forrest Summers in 1985 and they lived together with their combined children, Katie and Brett. Sandra was a multi-award-winning Hair Dresser throughout the Gulf South before returning to New Orleans. She and her sister successfully owned and operated the popular uptown hair salon, Right Up Your Alley. She then moved on to other successful ventures such as The Hair Suite and Salon Estati before retiring in 2010. Sandra loved life and enjoyed eating and drinking in the typical New Orleans lifestyle. She was a talented dancer attending weekly classes at Rock N Bowl. She loved to travel and took many cruise trips with her long-time companion, the late, Donald Taquino. If visiting her house, you would seldom find a pot of red gravy that didn’t include pig’s feet, and you could always find a cold bottle of Pinot Grigio in the fridge. Sandra is survived by one child: Katie Turner wife of Stephen Turner of New Orleans. She is also survived by one grandchild, Tallulah Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved dearly. Her favorite pets included, Estaban and the late, Roscoe, Pyewacket, Louie, Suga, Barron, Bab.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a celebration of life at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St.; on Saturday, October 19 2013 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm . In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to LA-SPCA.
